DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION
Position Summary
Responsible for managing construction activities for designated construction projects; including oversight contractors’ performance, management of construction budget, and other duties, as necessary.
Essential Responsibilities:
Establishes department standards, guidelines and objectives, and maintains other administrative processes such as budget and staffing to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of assigned areas.
Develops work plans and manages staff responsible for overseeing performance of contractors.
Monitors contractors’ work to ensure compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, and overall conformation with contract documents.
Reviews contract documents and assists with procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations.
Coordinates activities with other staff, departments, and public agencies.
Resolves field construction problems in coordination with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies, as necessary.
Attends progress meetings, develops status reports, and delivers presentations as required.
Recommends policy and procedure improvements.
Assists in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design, scope of construction work, and schedules.
Develops and implements a quality audit program, monitors contractor corrective actions, and ensures a quality project conforming to plans and specifications.
Monitors claims, suggests ways to mitigate impacts, and develops work- arounds.
Supports worksite safety standards and complies with all safety rules, policies, and procedures; maintains accountability for safety performance of subordinate personnel.
Signs Approved for Construction drawings.
Ensures compliance with Federal and State posting requirements.
Take on and manage various projects as assigned in order to aid in achievement of evolving company goals and objectives.
Must be able to travel to all Company properties.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management plus 10-years leadership experience managing construction projects of major size and complexity preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Registration as a professional engineer or architect, and a valid driver’s license is required.
Must have excellent PC skills and strong analytical, written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to obtain and maintain all licenses, certifications, and indemnifications requisite to the successful completion of all essential responsibilities.
Must meet or exceed all regulatory conditions stipulated for individuals holding this or similar positions.
